My opinion is for a baby grand for about the same $

Kawai is a good piano but for a beginner is an expensive toy. If you have the sum to spend, I suggest a baby grand from a lesser known maker. There is a big difference between upright and baby grand when a player progressed to 32th notes as they are structurally different..
