Most phones work in other countries, but if you do not change your sim, you will be charged international roaming rate, which is very expensive. What you would want to do is to switch to a local phone company, which requires a local sim. However,local sim does not work on a a locked phone. So, you have to get a sim unlock code from your carrier if they are willing to provide one before you go to China, then..intructions are attached with the unlock code.
