Rechargeable batteries

Do rechargeable batteries work as well as regular batteries?  I have several things that require batteries a lot, so I use quite some regular batteries.  But the tools I have require very strong power, so I am not sure about replacing them with rechargeable batteries.

Could you share me with your experience?  Thanks a lot.
