All real estate laws favors buyers than sellers. The buyers can get out of a transaction at every stage of the process, yes, LEGALLY. In California (I am not sure about other states), the buyer can even get out of the deal within 3 days of closing!
Yes, it sucks but you have to deal with it. On the other hand, don't you want the same protection if you are a buyer?
Since this is the way it is, stop complaining and go on with your life and find the next buyer!
