While the Kuwait Air Force is a sovereign military entity, it is deeply integrated into the U.S. air defense architecture through technical systems, shared data, and formal agreements,
- Command and Data Linking: Kuwait's air defenses are linked to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) IFF command center in Qatar. They use Link-16, a military tactical data link network that allows U.S. and Kuwaiti forces to share real-time "pictures" of the battlefield to identify friendly vs. hostile targets.
- Identification Friend or Foe (IFF): Under a 1991 Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA), Kuwaiti air defense operators are required to use shared IFF encryption keys. This ensures that when U.S. aircraft enter Kuwaiti airspace, they are automatically recognized as "friendly" by Kuwait's radar systems.
