On this World Pneumonia Day, Pfizer reaffirms its commitment to reducing the burden of pneumonia, a potentially serious infection that impacts all ages1, and seeks your partnership in the disease prevention efforts with immunizations.
Pneumococcal pneumonia is the most common type of bacterial pneumonia in children, especially in those younger than 5 years of age.1,2 In adults, pneumococcal pneumonia causes up to 30% of community-acquired pneumonia cases as well as approximately 13% of hospitalized pneumonia cases.1,3
Among individuals aged 50 and older, nonbacteremic pneumococcal pneumonia occurs over 15X more frequently than invasive pneumococcal disease and is associated with serious clinical outcomes - including ICU admission, mechanical ventilation, cardiovascular events, and in-hospital mortality.3,4
