it seems there is a trend to have laundry at 2nd floor, especially for a big house, (more than 4 rooms).

the idea is when you have more than 2-3 kids, you probably have a lots of wash loads every week, it's better to have laundry close to bath rooms and bed rooms than at 1st floor.
