You can lock

if the closing date is more than 60 days. You can find a broker agree to do protection lock.

EX. I can lock 180 days with today's rate +max 0.5%. float down or re-lock if rate keep un-changed, you can re-lock to the better one, if rate increase, you can use the protection lock. It should have no fee to do it.
