rather than spending all that time and money and get something you will not like later, maybe get a smaller area done first.

But i have to warn you about installing the flooring, when we bought our first condo, we did it ourselves, it wasn't difficult, but prepare to put some serious elbow greese into it:)) My advice would be to get some good knee pads.
