What happened to RMB today?

Why did it drop 2% in a single day. What is the point? There is no need to depreciate RMB to promote export at all. I always stress that the object of export is to exchange goods or materialized products that lacks in China, which would benefit common Chinese people. If export declines, these goods made in China should be sold in China rather than exporting to oversea by decreasing prices!
