Chinese has a set of highly classified vocalburary that are quite logical and easy to remember. First, Chinese characters are classified by about 214 meaningful radicals. For example, all characters relating to metal, such as 铁(iron), 铜(copper), 银(silver) are categorized by "metal" radical 钅. Secondly, combined with other characters, one character logically forms a group of words . For example, from character 铁(iron), it forms words 铁钉(nail), 铁锤(hammer), 铁丝(wire), 铁路(railway),etc. For a non-English speaker, he/she cannot tell any connection among words: iron, copper and silver, also see nothing common among words iron, nail, hammer, wire and railway, but everyone can easily see the same componet 钅among 铁, 铜, 银 and the same part 铁 among 铁钉, 铁锤, 铁丝, 铁路, if you know 钅 is a radical that indicates metal, you can make some logical guess on 铁, 铜, 银 and 铁钉, 铁锤, 铁丝, 铁路.
