I strongly agree on the separation of the politics and religion. There is no doubt on that at all.

Ironically, Iran became current Iran was mainly due to Untied States's 1953's action. During that action, US destroyed the elected democratic government and sent the notorious Pahlavi to the stage, later on this US cultured government triggered the 1979's revolution. Who to blame? Koran? maybe, how about the Western mastermind?

I know modern Islam has this and that issue, violence, narrow-minded. But I think most of them are people's problem.

Religion is about emotion. Emotion can be the piss match to burn anything. I don't foresee what may happen if Buddhist is in control, but they could be very emotional too.

The problem our world is dealing with now, if you look it superficially, it might be the case you were referring to. But the real reason i think is the people. People tried to use religion as a tool to boost their own political agenda. In this regard, all religions are similar.
