2009年7月13日11时，“新金桥Ⅱ”豪华客滚轮载着630名旅客从福州马尾出发直航台湾基隆港，预计十个小时后抵达基隆，开始为期一周的台湾游。据介绍，这是大陆直航台湾本岛的第一艘客轮。

此次参加首航的“新金桥Ⅱ”轮为客滚船，总吨位26463吨，总长186.5米、型宽24.8米，最大航速25.2节，乘员总数731人，客舱按五星级的标准配置，抗风等级达到蒲氏风八级，乘坐安全性和舒适性都将可以满足台湾海峡的航行要求。
