Let me ask you a question: why are Americans so arrogant? Because their country is one of the most powerful in the world. Are you happy when mistakened as a Japanese? Many Koreans are proudly declaring they are Koreans, but will emphasize they are NOT from North Korea, why?
Don't you see average westerners impression of China is still that of a century ago? Don't you see many westners take patronizing attitude towards Chinese, thinking they are doing you a favor?
Yet, they are not the ones to be blamed, it is you, Chinese who is shamed of your own courntry is to be blamed. Do you really believe the Americans will appreciate your dicredit your own country?
