Shigereu Miyagawa & John Dower at MIT study Japanese Nazis art
Dear sir or madam,
http://ocw.mit.edu/ans7870/21f/21f.027j/throwing_off_asia/toa_core_01.html
A Professor Shigery Miyagawa posted for his course at MIT. In these
webpages, Miyagawa posted a number of drawings, which he called ARTS and
many of these drawings depict beheading of Chinese civilians and soldiers
by Japanese captorss during the 1894-1895 Japanese invasion war to China.
With all due respect, I find this explanation totally irresponsible and
disappointing. These drawings and comments from Professor Miyagawa glorify
the atrocity committed by Japanese army to Chinese citizens during the 1894
Sino-Japan war.
Academic freedom is not to be exercised without boundary. I challenge
MIT President Hockfield and Professor Miyagawa to find any artistic value in
the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the oven-burning of Jews in Holocaust, the
beheading of American captive in Iraq,or the victims jumping off the world
trade center on 9/11.
It is my impression that the administration at MIT have not taken this matter
seriously, and I sincerely hope the handling or mishandling of this incident
does not damage MIT's integrity and reputation as one of the most prestigious
institutions in the world.
