Three blocks of flats at East Coast Road – Blocks 1, 2 and 3 – have been chosen for the government’s Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS).

The site, which is the 75th site to be benefit from SERS, has 82 sold flats which are about 48 years old.

The Housing and Development Board (HDB) will build replacement flats comprising 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-room flats at Chai Chee Road for the affected flat owners. The units will be ready in 2015.

The HDB said the replacement site is at a convenient location, within walking distance from Bedok MRT station, bus interchange and town centre.

It will offer residents an array of recreational facilities designed for all ages, such as a children’s playground, fitness stations, precinct pavilion, outdoor amphitheatre and community garden.

These facilities and amenities will also provide ample opportunities for social interaction and community bonding, said HDB.

Eligible SERS flat owners will be invited to register for their replacement flats in the third quarter of next year.

To facilitate the redevelopment of the SERS site, nine rental shops and one rental eating house at Blocks 1 and 2 will be affected. Eligible shop tenants will get an ex-gratia payment of S$60,000 per tenancy.

All shop tenants will be given a 10 per cent rental discount on their successful bid for other HDB rental shops or when they take over HDB shops through assignment.

Also affected by the redevelopment of the SERS site is Block 4, which has 35 two-room rental flats.

The HDB said about 34,000 households in 74 sites have benefitted since SERS was introduced in 1995.

It said SERS offers residents the unique opportunity to move to a brand new flat with a fresh 99-year lease, better design and more modern facilities.
