尼古拉·安德烈耶維奇·里姆斯基-科薩科夫(Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov)，俄羅斯作曲家、音樂教育家，在季赫溫出生。他和鮑羅丁、穆索爾斯基、巴拉基列夫和居伊並稱為「強力集團」。
《舍赫拉查達》（英語：Scheherazade，作品編號35），又名舍赫拉查德或天方夜譚，是俄國作曲家里姆斯基-科薩科夫於1888年所作的一套交響組曲。它的創作靈感來自阿拉伯經典《一千零一夜》一書。
交響組曲《舍赫拉查達》 (又名《舍赫拉查德》)，內容取材於著名的阿拉伯民間故事集《天方夜譚》，亦稱《天方夜譚》（即《一千零一夜》），是俄羅斯作曲家裡姆斯基-柯薩科夫的代表作品之一，是俄羅斯標題交響音樂的傑作之一。該作品寫於1888年夏，同年在聖彼得堡首演。《一千零一夜》這部偉大的民間故事集內容包羅萬象，有格言、諺語、寓言、童話、戀愛故事、冒險故事、歷史故事和名人軼事等，寫情寫景深刻生動，真實地反映出中世紀阿拉伯地區的社會制度、生活方式、宗教信仰和風土人情；這部作品是根據《一千零一夜》中故事內容，由一些阿拉伯東方的畫面和形象交替組成，其中有的是風俗性的趣聞，有的是幻想性的大自然景色或愛情的場面。有時充滿熾熱的激情，有時則是細膩、溫柔和靜觀的抒情詩。所有這些都以詩意為其基調，洋溢著浪漫主義的敏銳感情，散發出東方神話故事的芳香……作曲家裡姆斯基·柯薩科夫曾經在沙皇海軍中擔任軍官，因此漂泊四海，在中年之時已有豐富的遊歷。而交響組曲《舍赫拉查達》的靈感，即是來自於他心中對於東方神話般的印象。
組曲由四個樂章組成：
1.廣大而莊嚴（大海和辛巴達的船）
2.緩板（卡蘭達王子的故事）
3.行板近乎稍快板（年輕的王子與公主）
4.極快板（巴格達的盛宴—大海的船難）
第一樂章
此部分之起首以充滿威迫感的銅管樂，表出專橫的蘇丹王沙里亞—他覺得天下女子皆不忠，甚至在初夜後將自己的妃嬪殺死。小提琴之奏出，表示「舍赫拉查德」加入其中，及為他道出一連串之故事。里姆斯基-科薩科夫更藉多年前之航海經歷，描繪辛巴達乘風破浪，勇闖印度及斯里蘭卡海域之旅程。
第二樂章
此部分由巴松管引領，描繪卡蘭達王子之形像，更道出這位波斯王子抱著廣傳伊斯蘭教之決心。
第三樂章
此部分以扣人心弦的旋律作開端—描述一個年輕王子，跟公主墮入愛河，公主更為情人送上一段引人遐想的阿拉伯舞蹈。
第四樂章
此乃本樂曲之尾聲，舍赫拉查德記起蘇丹王的威脅，遂說出一個使人震驚之故事—開首描繪熱鬧之巴格達節日，後來有逃亡海上的英俊青銅騎士，他所坐之船隻於海上經歷驚濤駭浪，其後亦船毀人亡。小提琴再奏出舍赫拉查德之主題，引向平靜優美之終結—蘇丹王被舍赫拉查德之妙語連珠所打動，兩人最後更成為終身之夫妻。
《西班牙隨想曲》（意為「基於西班牙主題隨想曲」，作品號三十四）是里姆斯基-科薩科夫於西班牙地方曲調，在1887年寫成的一部管弦樂曲，在西方常以法語名稱──Capriccio espagnol示人。科薩科夫原欲將該曲歸類為小提琴獨奏和管弦樂隊協奏作品，但後來決定純粹將該曲歸類為管弦樂曲，以令演繹者更加著重活潑的旋律。
隨想曲共有五個樂章組成。
第一樂章為晨歌（Alborada），是西班牙阿斯圖里亞斯地區用來迎接日出的傳統舞曲，富有令人興奮的節慶色彩。
第二樂章變奏曲（Variazioni），首先由圓號部奏出主題旋律，繼而其他樂部相繼奏出主題的變奏曲。
第三樂章晨歌，再現第一樂章的旋律，只是在配樂和音調上有所不同
第四樂章場景和吉普賽歌謠（Scena e canto gitano），先以五個華彩樂段（cadenza）開首，分別以圓號加小號、小提琴獨奏、長笛、單簧管以及豎琴，分別伴以不同的敲擊樂器奏出。繼而整個樂隊奏出一段三拍子舞曲，推至高潮後緊接（attacca）到終章。
第五樂章為阿斯圖里亞斯風格的方登戈舞（Fandango asturiano），是西班牙北部阿斯圖里亞斯地區一種富有活力的舞曲。第一樂章晨歌的主旋律在這一樂章的尾部，也即是整首隨想曲的最後更為輕快激昂地重現。
