Martin Weiss (* June 14th 1961 in Berlin , Germany) is a performer (especially violinist and guitarist)
and composer of Gypsy jazz in the tradition of Django Reinhardt .
Weiss comes from a traditional German Sinti musician family.The musical foundation he received from his
grandfather.He had started with the accordion , then moved on to the guitar before he discovered the
violin for himself.He has appeared in public as a child.At 17 he was shooting star in the ensemble of his
uncle, Häns'che Weiss , with whom he celebrated international successes.With the Goethe Institute , the
group was on concert tours worldwide: including in Brazil, Panama, Cuba, Mexico, India and Tibet.
In search of new horizons Martin Weiss left the trio in 1994 and pursued then his uncle's own musical goals.
In the past 10 years, he set out with his Martin Weiss Sinti Jazz Ensemble at the prestigious Festival
international name. As a soloist and guest musician, he played with famous colleagues like Stéphane
Grappelli , Bireli Lagrene , Schnuckenack Reinhardt , Stochelo Rosenberg , Babik Reinhardt , Ravi Shankar ,
Barney Kessel , Oscar Peterson , Philip Catherine , Hugo Strasser , the big band of the Hessischer Rundfunk
and the former RIAS Big Band .
