How´s that bounce on Youku today?! Dead cat bounce with a flurry of shorts covering.... Where now for this dog of a company? Aug 18th appears to be the next IPO lockup expiry date of any consequence. I wonder if people will still be calling it the "Youtube of China" then.
@Philip Davis : My hat off to you for saying what needed to be said. The internet is a wonderful thing for increasing awareness despite it´s flaws. Let´s make it so!!
On the wires : Soros takes stake in Youku.com Inc <YOKU.N> of 50,000 sponsored adr (Extract from press release of Soros Fund Management). Surely for Soros this is a "drop in the bucket" but one has to wonder his motives/timing and what he actually paid for those shares. Any thoughts anyone?

I can´t imagine the carnage in the commodity space if a serious announcement about implementation of this new technology happened around the end of QE2!!! Would be quite the nail in the coffin.... lol I´m optimistic but not that optimistic!

@Gary Gordon. Thanks for this article. You´ve added a lot to my understanding of situations like the current debacle. I´ve added JJC and BKF to my watch list. Overlaying the SPY over a 2 year chart of the JJC shows the casual observer how closely the two track together with JJC slightly in the lead until the last half of Q1 when JJC starts chopping down and SPY continues upwards also in a choppy manner. It would seem one ETF needs to catch up to the other to stop this divergence and return to the usual relationship of the last 2 years. My money is on the latter catching up with the former. Interesting today´s bounce in the JJC failed to pierce the 200 SMA. In May 2010 buying into the bounce up above the 200 SMA got one into trouble!
CME announces a 21.4% margin increase for Nymex gasoline futures, the second such move this week. The money required to trade a gasoline futures contract jumps to $11,475 from $9,450 per contract, while maintenance margin requirements rise to $8,500 from $7,000. Gasoline futures -7.6% today. I don´t want the Bernanke to do anything about it. I´m banking that he won´t. It´s inflate or die! Blowing the froth off certain commodities by trying to curb excessive speculation is a noble cause though.

See, there is no inflation! Bernanke said any upward pressures would be transitory. The markets should have read more into that maybe as now there appears to be a co-ordinated attack on the "dreaded speculator". It´s a good excuse to bash up PM investors also!
Not behaving as might be expected on a "risk off" day is the Swiss franc, solidly lower against the greenback for a 2nd consecutive session. The swissie buys $1.1269. FXF-0.8%. [View news story]
I am long CHF versus AUD. But considering Greek exposure looking to close on next down day....

A fresh perspective, thanks! Despite the grades and some technical difficulties it does seem that this stock is very unloved and is perhaps one of very few true bargains out there right now. (Look at the 2 year chart). One of may favourite gold stocks right now! I am long XRC.T

I have been rather surprised by the drop in CHF lately since the EUR got hit. I am probably going to be closing my long CHF positions that I have as part of my hedge against market downturns. Any other suggestions for risk off currencies to hedge with for the summer doldrums particularly considering the Euro crisis. Already long USD, JPY, EPV, SH....
You might want to wait a while before buying. I think even with today´s pull back it´s still trading at over 100 times current GROSS SALES(not earnings! Currently losing money) while losing market share and new users to other competitors in China like Baidu amongst others. Youku unique visitors are down 15% Q1. Moreover IPO lockup expires June 6th so all the big fish who made a killing on the IPO might well take some profits..... Disclosure : short YOUKU
