约翰 · 斯特劳斯 (J . Strauss ，1825 年3月14日—1899 年)，奥地利作曲家。斯特劳斯自幼爱好音乐，不顾父亲老约翰 · 斯特劳斯的严厉反对，成为职业音乐家。在维也纳发生革命的时日里，他是国民军乐队的队长，指挥了《马赛曲》和他自己创作的革命进行曲和革命圆舞曲。约翰 · 斯特劳斯是一位多产的作曲家。其作品包括圆舞曲168首，波尔卡舞曲117首，卡得累尔舞曲73首，进行曲43首及轻歌剧16部 。

斯特劳斯的创作活动大致可以分为三个时期。第一时期为1863年以前。在这一时期里，他基本遵循维也纳圆舞曲模式，但已在作品中增加了音乐的表现力。第二时期为1864—1870年。这时，他的创作已趋于成熟，创作了大批至今仍广为流传的著名圆舞曲，如《蓝色多瑙河》、《维也纳森林的故事》等。第三时期为1871—1899年。斯特劳斯虽然又写出了著名的《南国玫瑰圆舞曲》、《春之声圆舞曲》、《皇帝圆舞曲》等，但主要从事轻歌剧创作。自1871年后的近30年中，他陆续写了16部轻歌剧。在J .奥芬巴赫和F.von 苏佩影响下，他充分运用维也纳圆舞曲及其他舞曲体裁，使维也纳轻歌剧别开生面。其中《蝙蝠》(1874) 和《吉卜赛男爵》(1885) 尤为突出。他的轻歌剧的题材回避尖锐的社会矛盾，音乐则充满欢快、热情、幽默的情绪，曲调扣人心弦，对后来 F .莱哈尔等人的轻歌剧创作产生了影响。
