摩根大通(J.P. Morgan)驻纽约首席经济学家卡斯曼(Bruce Kasman)指出，中国超越日本是“全球经济的一座里程碑”。如果按货币购买力平价计算，也就是考虑到一国货币在国内实际能购买多少商品和服务，那么中国早就超过了日本，成为仅次于美国的经济体。然而，中国的人均GDP仅为4000美元左右，约为日本的十分之一。而且中国5万亿美元的经济规模同美国约15万亿美元的差距仍然很大，即便是保持当前的增长速度，也要花10年甚至更久的时间才能赶上美国。（
