(Annina enters in great agitation, dressed for travelling.)

ALFREDO

ANNIAN
My mistress
ALFREDO

ANNINA
To sell the horses and carriages
And all her other things.
ALFREDO
What do you mean?
ANNINA
It’s very costly living here on our own.
ALFREDO
But why didn’t you tell me?
ANNINA
She said I mustn’t.
ALFREDO

ANNINA
A thousand louis.
ALFREDO
All right, you may go…
I’m going to Paris myself.

(Annina goes out.)
ALFREDO
