MGIC

Re: Newbie here but not Clue w MGiC sells! 31-Mar-10 03:08 pm I have used the development tool for 20 years. they created a data mapping/Interface tool called Ibolt about 5 years ago. It is basically an application they wrote using there development tool now called UniPaaS(formerly called Edeveloper formerly called Magic). It is a unique development environment. In the past it was possible to complete business application projects in a 10th of the time vs using traditional languages such as Visual basic C++ etc. I don't believe it saves as much time as it did. Not because it has lagged but because tools like Delphi, MS Visual Studio, Cold Fusion, etc have really made great strides. The BIG PROBLEM FOR MAGIC is the licensing model. It is fairly complex. The cost of using there software to develop solutions is high @ $5000. And then when you sell the app addtional run time and/or server licenses must be purchased and ongoing maintenance for the licenses must be paid. That is a hard sell when you can develop a product in visual studio and there is NO LICENSING COSTS TO PASS ON. So Magic has a real problem. The product only makes sense to fairly large installations because of the licensing costs. But the product is not mainstream so large organization shy away from it. Thats why they are almost non-existent in the USA. I LOVE THE PRODUCT and wish it would take off because of my knowledge of it. But I don't see it happening...unless they completely change the revenue model. If they truly had something special, why haven't they been bought by now. They are cheap!
