Only the speakers are useless. A decent multi-channel AV receiver or HIFI integrated amplifier is a must buy. For the given budget, you might take a look at Energy RC 50 which is a great floorstanding speaker currently on sale at Vann's. Only $800 for a pair with free shipping. Hope this helps.
