我需要喜欢自己吗 Myself I Shall Adore？- 亨德尔歌剧《塞魅丽 Semele》

Carolyn Sampson sang this aria from Semele by G F Handel during the 2009 BBC Proms. Not only is it perfectly sung but also bright, charming and funny. Worth watching and listening to!



Semele -
Myself I shall adore
If I persist in gazing.
No object sure before
Was ever half so pleasing.

“Semele” is based on a classical Greek myth.  The story plays upon the confusion and consequences brought by passion, jealousy and burning desires and the blurring of reality with dreams.  It is the story of a "Material Girl" who, despite being betrothed and having captivated the ultimate prize of Jupiter, King of the Gods, the vain Semele still remains dissatisfied placing unrealistic demands upon her immortal lover that ultimately leads to her destruction.
