For those who do not know, Enrico Macias was born in French Algeria and was forced to leave from Algeria after the series of events that lead to the Independance (1962) of that part of France (since 1830, before Nice and the Savoie).
This song speaks about the sorrow that still remains in the heart of the French Algerians that were forced to leave the country that was also their's and that they had built.
