This song was from a very old movie by Betty Midler. I vaguely remembered the movie. But the song is so popular. It was about two women who knew each other since they were little. Betty became a bigh music star and the other woman was alway behind and supporting her. They had some problems and was contacting each other for a while. Later the other woman was diagnosed of cancer and died. Betty adopted her daughter. All I want say is in the originally movie it was about the friendship between two girls.
