Khoroshe – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed on Monday that Russian forces had captured Pokrovsk and Vovchansk.

In a report released a few hours later, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Valery Gerasimov, stated that «Russian troops have surrounded Stepnohirsk in the Zaporizhzhia region and are successfully launching an offensive in the Dnipropetrovsk region». He also announced that approximately 30% of the buildings in Kostiantynivka (in the Donetsk region) are under the control of Russian units, and that assault units from the Western Group have entered Krasny Lyman, a small village northeast of Sloviansk. Previously, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin had announced the encirclement of Pokrovsk, Huliaipole, and Kupiansk.

None of these claims are true.

Pokrovsk is neither surrounded nor fallen. The Russian army has suffered so many losses in that sector of the front that it has had to deploy reserves in its efforts to reach the city center. After clearing the northern and eastern areas, the Ukrainian army has deployed its most advanced unmanned technology. The average lifespan of a Russian expendable is just a matter of a few minutes from the moment he’s thrown into the meat grinder until he’s detonated by a Ukrainian drone. The sky is filled with UAVs because the Russians also use theirs. However, by continuing to send their men into battle in civilian clothes or with Ukrainian camouflage and distinctive markings, the Russian generals create such chaotic situations that they end up losing many to friendly fire. Ukrainian drone operators feverishly watch the war room monitors, waiting until the last moment before launching their quadcopters at the enemy, so as not to waste a single one, since it is often the Russian drones that end up hitting them.

Logistics are running smoothly, and even the wounded are being evacuated, both there and to and from Rivne and Myrnohrad, although drones are preferred most of the time along all the frontline.

We approached Kupiansk just a few hours ago, finding a situation more similar to what the Ukrainian president described than the Russian dictator did. Zelensky said just yesterday that the city will soon be completely liberated from Russian raiders and saboteurs. Speaking with several soldiers and viewing live footage, we learned that the northern sector is still infested by the ДРГ, but these are isolated units, no longer receiving equipment and ammunition because the ЗСУ have managed to cut off all access to that sector and are blocking air traffic with electronic warfare devices.

What we’ve already reported about Huliaypole in our latest updates remains unchanged on the ground: after the 225th Motorized Infantry Regiment supported the 102nd Brigade, the Ukrainian defensive lines near Novouspenivke are still holding.

We were near Vovchansk a few days ago after filming the recent Russian attacks against Kharkiv Oblast?. The Russians have been trying to break through for two years now but are making no progress. They seize the ruins of a building, then lose them and return to their previous entrenchment. Vovchansk is a desolate land of rubble incompatible with life. The clearest example of a “gray zone.”

The streets of Sloviansk are still passable and the city remains livable, but with the utmost caution against FPV drones. In nearby Krasnyj Lyman, businesses are closed, and the few remaining civilians are barricaded inside their homes with bricked-up windows. The threat from the Russian DRG is real, but claiming the city is occupied is a stretch of fantasy.

Kostiantynivka is 100% under Ukrainian control. We have firsthand evidence of this after using nearby Druzhkivka as a base for reporting.

Given all this, it seems quite clear that, as Andry Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian Center for Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, confirmed, the Russians are backing their pressure at the front with sensational statements aimed at pressuring Western audiences to escalate diplomacy. In the coming weeks, it would be crucial for the media to maintain a constant presence on the ground because, as Kovalenko noted, these statements will be further exaggerated to present the situation at the front in Moscow’s favor.

During a meeting with the military, Putin even announced his intention to create a «security zone» along the Russian border with northern Ukraine, explaining that this will entail the need to take control of the border areas of the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv oblasts. This is pure dissemination of ideas that find no operational confirmation except in the pages of an unfortunately ever-growing number of Italian newspapers.
