When gao yu bao was a child he worked for a landlord. This landlord was very cruel! He made the farmers work very hard.(day and night?) and gave them very little to eat. The farmers hated him very much.
The landlord had a cock. The cock had a strange habit. It did not crow at dawn, but at midnight. Every time it began to crow, the landlord would shout: get up, go to work, you lazybones! So the farmers had a deep hatred to both the landlord and his cock.
Once at midnight, gao yu bao saw the landlord steal into the courtyard. There the man began to crow, just like a cock. So that was the trick!  
When gao yu bao told the other farmers what he had seen, they were very angry and decided to teach the landlord a lesson!  So the next night, as soon as the landlord stole into the courtyard, gao yu bao cried out: stop the thief, stop the thief. Immediately all the farmers ran out. They knocked the thief down and gave him a good beating. After that, the cock no longer crowed at midnight.
