There are always positive and negative effects to all new born matters, policies, programs. Someone likes to stress the negatives. I am sure there are a lot of positives arising out of知青. Some even cherished the happy but hard times with the poor peasants. Maybe what went wrong in some cases lies not with the policy itself but with the execution and the bureaucratism. It all comes down to is how one correctly treats and faces the situation.
