杨先生对中国物理届的一个少有人提及的帮助

在上世纪八，九十年代，杨先生邀请了不少中国学者到石溪大学访问/学习/工作

Academic Exchange Committee with China’ at SUNY Stony Brook to sponsor Chinese scholars to study at the school for one year. In 1981 … he … established the CEEC scholarship … to support personnel from Chinese universities and research institutes as visiting scholars at Stony Brook. By the early 1990s, a total of more than 80 Chinese scholars have successfully gone to the United States with the support of this scholarship, and most of them have returned to China on time to serve in their original units.

这些学者后来很多成为中国物理届的栋梁，我记得的有

谷超豪，杨福家，葛墨林，苏汝铿，赵光达，吴咏时，陈天伦，孙菖蒲等

他们回国后分散在全国各地的重点高校和研究所（如北京大学、清华大学、南开大学、中国科学院各研究所、复旦大学、南京大学等），不仅在科研上取得了成就，更关键的是承担起了人才培养和学科建设的重任，将现代物理学的火种播撒开来。
