Driving to Maine and Canada this summer?

We plan to take 2 kids (8 and 4) to vacation for 1-2 weeks in the middle of June. I am thinking to drive to Maine, then go to New Brushwick province in Canada. I have never been to Maine before, but we went to Canada two years ago(Quebec). Is Maine a nice place to go in early summer? How about New Brushwick? Thanks in advance for the comments. Any other ealy summer vacation ideas?
