I went there in late July many years ago. We tried to swim in the ocean and water was still bone chilling. I think you may want to look staying at Ellsworth. There are lots of hotels. I remember it was only a 20 minute drive to the park. Try the lobster feast and in open pits. Also try fresh clams.
