First of all

is there any contract relationship between you and the builder? I assume you bought a newly constructed or renovated house. If that is the case, write the builder a formal letter claiming reasonable damages caused to your rug and sofa. If he refuse to do so, sue him for breach of contract, he is liable for a consequential damage.

BTW, you'd better hire a lawyer to write the letter for you which could be more persuasive.
