You use all extra cash to pay mortgage? That could be a problem.

My suggestion is that each of you contribute $3000 to the joint account for mortgage and for daily use, and deposit the rest to your own personal account. If not enough, then raise the $3000 to $3500? You should have some cash on hand at these days just in case.
