I don't know where that incident occured. If that happened in Canada, accoording to your side of the story, the store violated your section 7, 8, 9 of the Charter of Rights and is exposed for civil liabilities.

Section 7 , 8, 9 of Charter of Rights protect a citizen from illegal deprivation of liberty, arbitrary detention and unreasonable search and seizure.

If the Police didn't give you a piece of paper called Appearance Notice or Form 9, then you were very likely not criminally charged at that point of time. The store may go after you for civil litigation.
