need help

A friend passed away two weeks ago without a will. He has ~$1M in cash, assets, and $0.5M in life insurance. Will his wife get all these? He has a kid with his ex-wife and the kid had been living with him since 1 year old (now 7 years old). The kid's mother is incapable to support financially due to some special reason. Will the kid get something from the father to live on? Thanks.
