Old cat, I called the court

My court date on the ticket is 7/26. I told the person who picked up the phone that I could not make it and want to reschedule. She said I could come on 8/8. That's it. She just asked what kind of ticket it was and didn't even asked the ticket number etc. I asked her is it ok for me just go on 8/8 and not show up on 7/26? She said that's ok. I feel really strange. Is it normal? How do the policemen and judge know that I called and changed the date. What if they assume that I do not show up on purpose and add additional penalty on me? Please tell me how I should do (ps. I cannot go on 7/26 for I will be in CA at that time). Thanks a lot!
