noncitizen qualified to service for jury?

I hold J1 visa and have been lived in US for one year, I received a mail from local court, it required me to service for a jury. I do not have time to do this kind of work, I am wondering if I am qualified to be a jury? It said if my excuse do not be approved, I must be there on the date. Please give me some advice!!
