What should I do to not lost too much money?

I just moved out an apartment(had paid full July rent), and did clean it carefullly. The landlord said he would let professional cleaner cleanning the apartment (he will charge me $180). When I moved in (1.5 years ago), I was sure that it's not cleaned by professional. If only $180, it's ok for me.

But he said, if the professionel couldn't clean the carpat well, he will let me pay the cost of changing the carpet. ( The carpet was 4 years old.) I heard one friend had been charged more than $1000.

Someone has rented this apartment. I was nice to promise to return the keys to the lanlord this Friday, and let the new tetent move in at the weekend.

If the landlord takes my money for the carpet, but do not change or clean it( I don't think he has time to do it before someone move in.)? What can I do? (ask for a receipt?)What should I do to not lost too much money? Could I complaint? Many Thank!!
