is there possibility that my company give me goood reference?

I was laid -off by a company. I only worked there 4 months. Although I worked hard and I did a good job, but I have some conflicts with my supervisor. I told the boss the conflicts between I and the supervisor. Then I lose my job.
The human resource manager told me that my supervisor will give recommendation for me. I don't know if this is the regular statement or not.
Is there any possibility that if I use my supervisor, he give me negative recommendation?
