will vs trust

Hi:

In addition to bypass the probate, what will a trust buy me? Anybody can help?

Like most oversea students, I don't have much personal property. The joint property will go to my spouse automatically under the right of survivorship.

How bad would a probate go in my simple case? My lawyer suggested that I simply put my personal property into my will instead of a trust. A trust will cost me time to manage it too.
