Yes or no to the employment application form?

For some unfortunate reasons, I had a misdemeanor C in my record, and it was expunged. Now I need to apply a job in school or university. I don't know if I should answer yes or no to the criminal record. My lawyer told me I should say no since it was expunged, but I am thinking school or universities may be different?
