divorce with kids

A friend of mine is going through divorce process, they have two kids. Is it true how much asset each get depends on who has kids?

for example, if LP has two kids, would she have 3/4 of total assets? vise versa.
How do they define who get kids if both want kids?

BTW: both LP and LG have good income.
