win lawsuit from being laidoff

my friend is planning to suit his company for being laidoff. The reason is he is the oldest in the company and manager kept on saying: "you are old and you have blood pressure, let young people do this and that, you just need to give directions" Eventually he got laidoff. Anybody has experience on this? How to successfully win the case?
