I got a parking ticket last time I visited Richmond, Canada. I wrote an email to the city explaining my circumstance. I did admit that I violated the parking rule. I told them it was my first time there and I am not familiar with Canada traffic rules, especially when local cars were parking around my car. I promised to be more careful next time and asked them to void my ticket. It worked. They changed my ticket to a warning only.

Not sure what kind of ticket you received and where, how you got it, so this may not work for you. Anyway, good luck.
