No sublease is kind of harsh and unusual, take a second look at the original documents when u signed ur lease.

If indeed there was a no sub-lease clause, I think you have 3 choices: 1) negotiate will him 2) pay up
3) prepare to defend your new house in a court (he can
sue you and put a lien on ur house)
