I had the same situation before. My birthday info on I-94 is one day short. So I asked the lawyer who applied my H1B. I didn't get billed. Did he help file the document to correct the error? If not, $600 for consultant is bull shit. If so, $600 is still way too high. I wouldn't pay it.
