One year must be the maximum sentence. You could always work out a deal with DA prior to trial. If you are unfortunate enough and get the maximum, which I don't think possible, it might be deemed a aggrevated felony, which renders you deportable. Usually, simple asssult is not an offense involving moral turpitude and does not make you deportable.
