I'd suggest Don't fight with your friend too strong and I believe he might be very painful and sad, too. He did not reply your call just because it's meanless since he knew you wanted the money back which he is not able to do right now. Just give your friend some time and opportunity to if he is lucky to get money back.

My suggestion is based on (1) you are good friend and (2) your friend is basically gentlman with good personality except this time.
